Romania gets millions of euros in EU funding to take care of the problem of stray dogs and rabies provided that it is done in a cost effective and humane way. The situation in Romania now: The dogs are killed in the most horrific ways - they are burnt or buried alive, strangled, poisoned, hanged or dumped in landfills packed like sardines in cramped cages – sometimes in sight of children. Those who are not killed on the spot get shipped to horrendous "concentration camps" where they after a few weeks are beaten to death or poisoned if they haven’t already died of cold, hunger and thirst. Dog catchers and death “shelters” get about 300 euros per killed dog. No wonder that the Romanian mafia wants the dog problem to persist! According to all researches the most effective and cheapest way to deal with the dog problem would be to neuter and spay the dogs.
