The tourist country Mexico

Mexico has many magnificent tourist attractions like Acapulco, Cancun, Guanajuato, Cozumel, Los Cabos, Palenque, the Copper Canyon, Tulum, Chichen Itza, Teotihuacan, Playa del Carmen, Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan, Oaxaca, Guadalajara, Cabo San Lucas, Mexico City, Guadalajara, Tequila in Jalisco, Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo, Isla Mujeres, Riviera Maya, Palenque and Tulum. 

Mexico has also many secrets that very few tourists know about. Before you decide to visit Mexico as a tourist, please take a moment to find out whether this is a country whose economy and values you want to support. They way innocent and defenseless beings are treated tells a lot about a society. These news stories give you some information on how animals are treated in Mexico.

In the Yucatán city of Citilcum a yearly tradition known as Kots Kaal Pato is celebrated, where people bash piñatas full of live animals. The animals used are mostly iguanas or ducks, but also endangered animals like opossums. People take turns at beating the toy with sticks. If some of the animals survive the initial beating and manage to escape, the crowd will catch them and trample them to pieces.

At the ”Torneo de Lazo” event in Yucatan live horses are eviscerated for fun. In this ”rodeo” type event bulls ram into horses so that the horses’ guts fall to the ground. The horses don’t die immediately, but are left bleeding and suffering on the ground.

There’s a huge population of homeless dogs in the cities of Mexico. Ciudad Juárez is one of them. The homeless animals are tortured and abused by people in every possible way.

The documentary film ”Companions to None” by director Bill Buchanan shows the heartbreaking reality of homeless dogs in Mexico City. In some regions of Mexico, the homeless dogs outnumber the humans. The sterilisation of dogs is uncommon in Mexico. There’s a belief that sterilising a male dog will make the dog ”gay”.
