In Florida a racing greyhound dies every three days, and the greyhounds suffer from innumerous injuries such as fractured skulls and broken necks. The dogs are often subject to horrific cruelty including being starved to death and denied veterinary care. Dogs are kept in tiny cages for long hours and the cages are so low that the dogs cannot even stand fully erect. To reduce costs, they are fed the cheapest food, such as meat from diseased animals.
