The tourist country Portugal

Portugal has many magnificent tourist attractions like Lisbon, Algarve, Oporto, Sintra, Porto, Coimbra, Madeira, Évora, Óbidos, the Azores, Guimarães, Mosteiro dos Jerónimos, Oceanário de Lisboa, Palácio Nacional de Sintra, Torre de Belém, Convento do Cristo, Bom Jesus do Monte, Universidade de Coimbra, Museu Calouste Gulbenkian, Castelo de Guimarães, Torre de Clérigos, Castelo de São Jorge, Sé Cathedral and Roman Temple (Évora), Mosteiro Pálacio Nacional de Mafra, Igreja de Santo António and the Museu Municipal (Lagos), Silves Castle, and Palácio da Bolsa.

Portugal has also many secrets that very few tourists know about. Before you decide to visit Portugal as a tourist, please take a moment to find out whether this is a country whose economy and values you want to support. The plight of the hunting dogs (source: ESDAW)
In Portugal a hunting dog is considered to be a throwaway product and nothing else than a hunting tool. The dogs are believed to hunt better when they are starved, and they seldom get any medical care, let alone human affection. When the dogs are no longer wanted they are dumped or killed, often in very inhumane ways.

In Portugal it is common practice to abandon pets when the are no longer wanted, and there are countless homeless cats and dogs. The public shelters are often like concentration camps.

Portugal is one of the countries where animals are tortured for entertainment and profit. In a Portuguese bullfighing the bull is stabbed with several javelins to make it weaker. Unlike Spanish bullfights, the bull is not killed in the ring, but it is usually slaughtered after the fight, out of the audience’s sight.

In Portugal, hunting dogs are generally treated very badly. In this example from Algarve, according to eye witnesses the dogs were starving to death, they were thirsty and sick, they had no energy, most with lots of ticks and wounds from hunting and from fighting with each other over bitches and over the little food they did get. None were neutered. There was a thick layer of their faeces in their cages as well as in their water. The dogs had organ damage from prolonged lack of water, they had gunshot wounds and broken limbs that never were treated, they died in an untold number of despicable ways. It was really just hell.
