Record numbers of illegally trapped birds in Cyprus – an estimated 900,000 birds poached in the autumn of 2014 at Dhekelia alone, a UK sovereign base area. Songbirds are trapped with extremely cruel methods like nets and lime-sticks, and they are slaughtered for the Cypriot delicacy ambelopoulia.

The hotel staff of the four-star Anastasia Beach Hotel (part of Tsokkos Group) in Protaras, Cyprus, threw a seven-month-old stray puppy in a waste crusher. The puppy was found by tourists lying at the bottom of the bin with horrific injuries including a broken back and brain damage. The puppy died a few days later.
